Transfer Policies and Guarantees
The North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) is a statewide agreement governing the transfer of credits between NC community colleges and NC public universities and has as its objective the smooth transfer of students. The CAA provides certain assurances to the transferring student; for example:
- Assures admission to one of the 16 UNC institutions (Transfer Assured Admissions Policy)
- Enables NC community college graduates of two-year Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degree programs who are admitted to constituent institutions of the university of NC to transfer with junior status.
Basic information about the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA)
This short video helps explain the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement in simple terms.
The CAA Grievance Policy exists to provide transfer students who perceive that the terms of the CAA have not been honored an opportunity to officially file those concerns. A student may file a grievance within the first six weeks of the beginning of the term for which admission was offered at the college or university. The student may terminate the grievance procedure at any point.
To file a grievance, the student should obtain a CAA Student Grievance Form from the admissions office of the college or university to which he/she was admitted. The Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA) between signatory institutions of the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) and the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) is intended to provide a smooth transfer for community college students who wish to continue their education at one of the NCICU institutions that have signed the agreement.
- North Carolina Community College transfer students who successfully complete the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), or Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree; and who seek admission to a University of North Carolina institution or any of the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities who participate in the CAA are guaranteed certain things. Click on the link to find out what.
